The strange forest located 28km from Dalain Hob of EjinaQi . Around 100 years ago here was a natural Euphrates popular forest with black river supplied abundant water to it. But the excessive use of water on the upper reaches of the black river in 1990s greatly reduced the water amount of the lower reaches and finally the natural forest died and turned into desert with dried Euphrates popular wood.
Euphrates Poplar or Desert Poplar is a bushy, deciduous tree whose trunk is often twisted and crooked. There is a saying to describe its strong vitality: “Live for a thousand years until death; Stand for another thousand years until fallen; Exist for another thousand years until rotten.” The dried Euphrates Poplar can stand in the desert for a long time before it rots away and they present great variety of strange shape which make the died forest like a bizarre wonder land.
The legend has it that there was a brave general named black general stationed in the black city. One day the enemy with strong army surrounded the city and tried to conquer it. They blocked the river to here and people in the city were dying of thirsty. The black general want to save these people, he led his soldiers broke the Encirclement and fought a bloody battle with enemy. In the end he died in this forest. People believe that these dry Euphrates Poplars are the unyielding spirit of the general and soldiers.
