Wanxiang Cave is located in the hillside of Yang Pang Village, Longnan City, Gansu Province, and is 15 kilometers away from the urban area. The cave has a history of 250 million to 300 million years. It’s one of the largest karst landform in northwestern China, which has high artistic value and has both the grandeur of the North and the delicacy of the South. There are 11 scenic spots that have been developed in the area, with more than 120 large-scale landscapes, they are named as the Moon Palace, Heavenly Palace and Dragon Palace according to their shape.
A new cave was discovered in June 2007, which has formed about 50 million years ago and is in a preliminary stage of growth. The new cave is protected and has only developed more than 100 meters. However, the cave landscape is in the early stage of development ,which is very rare in China.
Wanxiang Cave is also known as “Five Immortals Cave”. According to legend, five immortals practiced here. According to the inscription inside the cave, Wanxiang Cave has attracted visitors since over 1,000 years ago. So far, there are more than 100 stele of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and more than 960 poem inscriptions.
Wanxiang Cave is National AAAA tourist attraction, provincial geological park, provincial cultural relics protection unit, enjoy the name of “the No1. cave in North China”, “underground cultural gallery”, “underground Art Palace".
