Wenxian Heavenly Lake National Forest Park is located in the majestic mountains about 100 kilometers north of Wenxian County , Longnan city, Gansu Province. Due to the crust activity in ancient times, the crust was broken and the Yangtang river channel was blocked. Therefore, on the Tianwei Mountain with a of 2400 meters high, it converge into a lake of gourd shape, known as Heavenly lake, which is one of the four greatest heavenly lakes of China.
Wenxian Heavenly Lake is located at the junction of the north-south structural system of Sichuan-Chongqing and the east-west structural parts of Kunlun-Kunlun Mountains. There are many twists and skews, and the geology is very complicated. It is one of the famous earthquake-prone areas in history. There are mountains such as Maidiliang, Yujiashan, Caopo with altitude over 3,500 meters. The surface of the lake is 1,728 meters above sea level and it is a typical high mountain barrier lake.
Geology
Wenxian Heavenly Lake was formed under the powerful gravity of the Earth. Different parts of the original crust in the northwestern Wenxian County were strongly squeezed, stretched, twisted, and creased, broken, or distorted. Along with volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, high escalation and deep settlement appear to form a unique geological skeleton, forming magical peaks, canyons, water nets, and lakes, leaving behind numerous volcanic remains and earthquake remains.
Climate
The scenic area belongs to continental north subtropical to temperate monsoon climate. The terrain of the lakeside is fluctuating, and the differences in elevation are huge. Combined with the adjustment of forest vegetation, the climate shows diversity and the vertical zonal distribution is obvious. The mountainous area with an altitude of 1100-1700 meters is a warm temperate zone, and the area with an elevation of 1700-2000 meters is a medium temperate zone. As the elevation rises, the temperature drops, and the rainfall increases. It is characterized by wet and rainy conditions. The cold and temperate zone is above 2000 meters.

Two, the lake is clear all year round. Three, there are sometimes strong wind but has no big waves. Four, the bottom of the lake has undercurrents, the lake center has gushing water. Five, in winter of minus 10 degrees, it is still not frozen.
