On May 3rd, the reporter learned from the Wild Camel National Nature Reserve Management Bureau in Lop Nur, Xinjiang, that it’s the time for the birth of wild camels . In order to reduce the interference of human activities on wild camels, the Protection District Administration issued an announcement that all social groups and individuals are prohibited to enter protected areas to carry out activities such as tourism and adventure.
The announcement clearly stipulates that: It is forbidden for all social groups, units or individuals to enter the protected areas to carry out tourism and adventure activities, especially the water sources and habitats of the wild camels such as the Kumtag Desert, the Akchi Valley, Bayi Springs, etc.; Anyone who carries out activities such as tourism and adventures in a protected area will be punished according to law upon discovery. If the circumstances are serious, criminal responsibility shall be investigated; if a public employee enters into a protected area, it must go through the examination and approval of the protected area authority and be approved by the superior department.
According to briefings, at present, it is the calving period of wild camels. Once a person or a vehicle enters a protected area, the mother camel or herd will be frightened and quickly flee, and the young camel is likely to fall behind and be abandoned by her camel. To this end, the Protected Area Authority called for the prohibition of anyone from entering their breeding ground during the birth of the wild camel. Staff will step up patrols and patrols in major areas to ensure that wild camels and their habitats are effectively protected.
