The 18th FIRST Youth Film Exhibition opened in Xining, Qinghai Province

On July 20, the 18th FIRST Youth Film Exhibition opened in Xining, Qinghai province. In the evening, the opening ceremony of the film festival was held in Xining, and many guest filmmakers, young creators and enthusiastic fans once again gathered at the plateau.

The FIRST Youth Film Festival began in 2006 as the International Student Film Festival. In 2011, it settled in Xining and was renamed Xining FIRST Youth Film Exhibition, which is committed to discovering and promoting young filmmakers and their works.

Since its establishment 18 years ago, the FIRST Youth Film Exhibition has become a comprehensive platform covering film festivals, film markets, production cultivation and public culture. Through screenings, venture capital meetings, industry screenings and training camps, FIRST encourages the spirit of innovation and independence among young people and promotes the exchange and dissemination of film culture in the whole society.

The jury of the 18th FIRST Youth Film Festival is chaired by director Guan Hu, and the members of the jury include Liu Qing, Liu Xiaosha, Shuang Xuetao, Song Jia, Wang Yu and Wu Kangren. During the festival, they will choose 10 honors, including best feature film, best director, Jury Prize, best actor, Best artistic exploration and best screenplay, which will be announced at the Youth Film Festival on July 28.

The 18th FIRST Youth Film Festival received a total of 1,144 valid entries for the film, the production background radiation of the global, the prosperity of local cultural texts, the emergence of new generation of creators, showing the international vision and steady pace of young filmmakers. After pre-selection and shortlisting, a total of 13 feature films, 7 documentary films, 12 live-action short films and 7 animated short films entered the shortlist, which will be screened in Xining.

In addition to the main competition unit, the 18th FIRST Youth Film Exhibition also set up a variety of parallel competition units such as "FIRST Super Short film", "FIRST FRAME" and "FIRST PIONEER Creation", all of which evaluate and promote the works of young filmmakers from an independent evaluation perspective.

As the core content of this year's FIRST production and cultivation section, the FIRST training camp has been started in Xining on July 14, seven crews and 42 young filmmakers under the guidance of the mentor advisory group, under the title of "2044", in a limited time and limited cost to complete the short film creation, the finished film will be screened on July 25. In addition, during the film festival, activities such as the FIRST Film market and Forum Workshop will be held successively to build a diversified field of dialogue and reflection for guests from the film industry.
