From January 12 to 14, the 6th China-France Cultural Forum, co-sponsored by the Western Returned Scholars Association and the French Foundation for Vision and Innovation, was held in Deauville, France. The Dunhuang delegation was invited to attend the forum and delivered speeches at the "A Talk of Civilizations - The Salon of Sino-French Cultural Masters" and the "Mayors' Roundtable Dialogue".
On the morning of the 13th, Zhao Linyi, vice president and research librarian of the Dunhuang Academy, attended the parallel forum of the Congress "Civilization Discussion - Salon of Chinese and French cultural Masters". Zhao Linyi introduced that as a historical witness of the exchange and integration of civilizations along the Silk Road, the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang is one of the largest, richest, longest-lasting and well-preserved Buddhist historical sites in the world, representing the highest achievement of Chinese Buddhist culture and art from the 4th to the 14th century, and is known as the "art Museum in the desert". For a long time, the Dunhuang Academy has carried out extensive cooperation and exchanges with relevant national institutions at the forefront of international Dunhuang studies, and has made remarkable achievements, which has won the attention and praise of the cultural relics protection circles at home and abroad. He said that the Dunhuang Academy will actively learn from France's good experience and good practices in cultural protection and inheritance, and look forward to making use of the professional expertise and technological advantages of relevant French cultural relics protection institutions to jointly promote the progress of cultural heritage protection technology and further deepen cooperation between the two countries in the field of cultural protection.
On the morning of the 14th, Urhan, secretary of the Party Group and chairman of the Dunhuang CPPCC City, attended the "Mayor's Roundtable Dialogue". Urhan said that the cultural exchanges between China and France have a long history, and the ancient city of Dunhuang is the best witness. In the last century, Mr. Chang Shuhong, the patron saint of Dunhuang, studied drawing, painting and sculpture at the University of Lyon, France, which laid a solid foundation for his artistic career in Dunhuang. Dunhuang culture formed after more than one thousand years, extensive and profound, with a long history, is a brilliant chapter in the long river of world culture. The Mogao Grottoes, the Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo, and the Echoing Sand Mountain and Crescent Spring attract tourists and guests from all over the world. She said that Dunhuang will welcome friends from all over the world with a more open and inclusive attitude.
During the conference, the Dunhuang delegation paid a visit to Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former Prime Minister of France and Chairman of the Vision and Innovation Foundation. The two sides recalled Raffarin's participation in the first Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo in 2016, and Ulhan handed over the congratulations of the Dunhuang Municipal government on the sixth Sino-French Cultural Forum and the invitation to Mr. Raffarin.
The China-France Cultural Forum has been held for five times in Beijing, Lyon, Xi 'an, Nice and Suzhou. It is a brand event in the field of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and has been included in the high-level people-to-people exchange mechanism between the two governments.
