On February 11th, the 2025 Shandan Shehuo performance, titled "Revitalizing Intangible Cultural Heritage with New Charm, Celebrating the New Year with Dragon and Lion Dances," kicked off. This cultural extravaganza, featuring nearly 500 performers from both China and abroad, was particularly highlighted by the participation of a group of Pakistani international students. The cross-cultural dialogue has helped to further promote and amplify China's traditional intangible cultural heritage.
In January 2025, international students from Bailie Vocational College joined the Shehuo rehearsal through Shandan County's "Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) on Campus" project. Starting as curious onlookers, they gradually became practitioners of ICH skills. Under the hands-on guidance of ICH inheritors, the students mastered the techniques of dragon dancing. Every arm swing and turn was filled with passion and respect for Chinese traditional culture, earning them rounds of applause from the audience.
The internationalization of Shandan's ICH culture demonstrates that traditional ICH is not a static exhibit in a museum but a living civilization that can continue to grow through youthful perspectives and cultural tourism innovation. Han Mo, an international student, shared, "I am from Pakistan and study at Bailie Vocational College. This is my first time participating in Shandan's dragon dance, and I am very excited. I hope that through my involvement, more friends from abroad can learn about China's ICH culture."
In recent years, Shandan County has showcased the unique charm and value of its ICH culture on the international stage through participation in international exhibitions, deepening cross-cultural exchanges, developing ICH-inspired creative products, and promoting ICH cuisine. Moving forward, Shandan County will continue to actively transform the development of traditional ICH culture. By implementing differentiated support and multi-level promotion mechanisms, the county aims to further explore ICH culture, expand the inheritance community, and write a new chapter of brilliance for ICH culture in the process of modernization.
