AUCKLAND, New Zealand - The "Flying Over the Sky" Dunhuang Art Exhibition held its opening ceremony on the 20th in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city. The event was attended by over a hundred guests, including Chen Shijie, Chinese Consul General in Auckland, Mayor Wayne Brown, Dunhuang art enthusiasts, and media representatives.
In his speech, Consul General Chen Shijie stated that Dunhuang art is a shining pearl of Chinese civilization and an important part of world cultural heritage. He noted that the development and transformation of Dunhuang have been closely linked to trade and cultural exchanges, and that New Zealand's success also lies in its commitment to trade-oriented national policies and multiculturalism. He emphasized the special significance of hosting this exhibition in New Zealand and expressed his hope that more New Zealand friends would come to understand and appreciate Chinese culture through the exhibition, thereby promoting cultural exchanges between the two countries and strengthening the public foundation for bilateral relations.
New Zealand guests spoke highly of the academic and historical value of Dunhuang culture, emphasizing the significant positive role Chinese culture has played in the development and progress of the world. They expressed their commitment to continue promoting exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two countries, contributing to the sustained and stable development of bilateral relations.
The opening ceremony featured splendid dance and folk music performances by local art groups. The Dunhuang Art Exhibition is organized by the Dunhuang Academy of China, co-hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Auckland and the Auckland Chinese Cultural Centre. The exhibition will run until March 23rd.
