Ejina Qi Located in the western end of Mongolian autonomous region in China.
It Border with Jiuquan to the south and The People’s Republic of Mongolia to the north. It has an area of 114,606 square km of which dominated by Gobi desert. It has low-lying north and high south, with altitude range from 1200-1600 meter above sea level. The only river in the area called black river which originated from Qilian Mountain and feed in the Juyan Lake.
The most important satellite launching center in China – Jiuquan Launch Center just located in this area.
Ejina Qi has a population around 20,000. Most of them are the Han Chinese. Mongolians account for 30% of the population. The mainstay of its economy is animal husbandry and tourism.
Ejina Qi is famous for a kind of desert tree -- Populus diversifolia. It enjoys another name “the kingdom of Populus diversifolia”. Each autumn when the leaves take on gold color there is a special festival held at the capital and thousands of visitors come for photograph.
The area within Gansu’s jurisdiction has undergone several changes since 1950. In 1954 Gansu annexed the province of Ningxia. In 1956 the Alashan You (Alax You) Qi and Ejina (Ejin) Qi banners in northwestern Gansu were detached and incorporated into the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 1958 the affixed Ningxia province was separated from Gansu to become the Hui Autonomous Region of Ningxia.
